Open for bookings: Holland House/Evesham Festival of Words Programme Spring 2026

We are delighted to announce that two events in our 2026 programme in partnership with Holland House, Cropthorne are already available for bookings:

23rd Mar 2026: Evesham Festival of Words Friendly Lunch – ‘AE Housman and A Herefordshire Lad’ with Max Hunt. Cradley Churchyard in Herefordshire contains a plain and unremarkable grave stone. The story behind it is anything but unremarkable. It is the memorial to a gifted  young man, Henry Clarkson Maclean, who during the afternoon of August 6th 1895 booked into London’s Charing Cross Hotel and, later that evening shot himself in the head. His story and the events leading up to his suicide tell us a lot about the intolerance and hypocrisy of late Victorian society.

27th Apr 2026: Evesham Festival of Words Friendly Lunch – ‘The Most Heroic Failure of Modern Times – Shackleton’s Antarctic’, with Jeremy Holmes. When Ernest Shackleton set off to cross the Antarctic for the first time in 1914 he was already a celebrated explorer, but his ship quickly got trapped and then crushed in the ice. Shackleton’s leadership became the stuff of legend. This talk explains why.

Early bookings are advised for these incredibly popular and often sold out events!
