About

John Moore is one of Gloucestershire’s most well-known writers of novels, including A Portrait of Elmbury – a thinly disguised portrait of Tewkesbury and its most notorious inhabitants.  Described by Sir Compton Mackenzie as the most talented writer about the countryside of his generation, John Moore was also a talented naturalist from schooldays, and an early campaigner for the preservation of everything connected with the rural scene.  He was also the founder and driving force behind the Cheltenham Literary Festival.  Discover more about the man, from birth to legacy with this talk by Kirstie Bingham, Heritage Manager of The John Moore Museum, Tewkesbury (www.johnmooremuseum.org).

This talk links into a walk around the village of Kemerton, taking in The John Moore Nature Reserve. The walk, organised jointly by Evesham Festival of Words and Evesham Walking Festival, is on Thursday 25 June, 2.00 pm. Tickets for the walk only available from www.eveshamwalkfest.org.uk.

Two-course lunch is served at 1.00 pm (special diets can be accommodated) but arrive early to get a drink and enjoy the lovely house and gardens. The talk will commence about 2.00 pm.
