About

In 1994, TV producer, David Parker, spent the summer recording interviews with much-loved author, Laurie Lee, a man who generally did not ‘do’ television. David shared those lost recordings at a fabulous Festival of Words talk in 2018. In 2021 and 2023 David led very special guided tours in and around the village of Slad, a place enshrined in much of Laurie Lee’s work.  These were very popular events and in 2026 we will be repeating that walk – a chance to enjoy the stunning scenery around Slad, pausing at times to listen to recordings of Laurie Lee’s own voice.

David is an independent TV producer, based in Bristol. He has previously enthralled Festival audiences with his talks about Johnny Kingdom, The Flying Scotsman, and how he made the TV programme, The Golden Age of Steam.

Note: The walk is 3-4 miles, the terrain is uneven and there are some gradients. Please dress appropriately for the weather and wear suitable footwear. Why not stay on and treat yourself to lunch at the pub after the walk? Lifts may be available on request.
